fitting, since she's mexican and there's no way it could be itchy. it works really well for the pattern. the stitch definition on the cables is great.<br designing an ear warmer and i'm planning on casting on some lace this weekend.

of course, this knitting is on top of the sweater i'm knitting for my mother's holiday type='text'>vanilla with pieces

i'm having the most lovely evening. there's been a huge thunderstorm and it's nice and noisy out. i've been knitting and listening to podcasts. it's just so cozy with some nice audio and big piece of knitting in your lap.

i finished the knitting on my thermal. it's so soft and squishy. it looks like i could have made it longer, but i'll see how it looks after i block. when i cast on, i was so eager to knit it up so i could do the seaming. and of course, now that i've finished knitting, all i want to do is cast on another big project. not socks, not lace, but another sweater or something.

of course, the only yarn i have enough of is super bulky weight. my mom found it on sale. it's a wonderful color and there's four hundred grams of it, but it's super bulky weight. i have no idea what to do with it. moreover, i don't even think i have needles big enough to swatch. i have a set of size nine circulars. i may have a set of size fifteen straights lurking about somewhere. ... it shows gauge on size seventeen... looking this closely at the yarn, i'm a bit scared.

regardless, i still don't want to seam up thermal. even though i would have a sweater if i did. i also don't want to cast off and weave in the ends of my grey and red vest. it's been sitting in my bag for nearly a month now. i just need to cast off the neckline and sew in ends. that's it. okay, so, there are fifty million ends. or... y'know, fourteen. still, entirely too many.

i think this means i need to go to a knitting group.

<div love the colors. and it's so soft! this may be one of my favorite socks yarns. i've finished the first sock and i just started the toe decreases on the second. i was amazed by how quickly they remembered. i'm almost halfway done with the last tier (not including the border). i think i may be able to finish it for her birthday.

but most exciting, is my sweater. i finished the second sleeve! they're so pretty and soft and fluffy. ^_^ alas, i don't think i'll be finishing it in a month (i started two weeks ago and haven't even started the body), but i should finish it by the end of november.

and lastly, just because. this is what saw from my kitchen window one day, looking out at the neighbor's roof.
notes.rosetrellis.01.000

so, i finally have my card reader and camera back on a consistant basis and time to blog. ^_^ this means that i finally get to post about all the lovely lace i've been knitting.

about a year ago, i was at a fashion school store, and found a gigantic cone of cotton yarn. it was such a fun color, and a total steal. i carted it to school, thinking i would make thigh-high belled leg warmers. guess what i never got around to starting? i finally decided that, alas, it would never be leg warmers, and it was high time i made a lace shawl. and i had the perfect yarn for a summer lace shawl. that i had plenty of. ^_^ it's so big, i just had to take a photo of it.

and so you can actually see how big this thing is, i took a photo of it next to a skein of fifty grams of worsted weight.

i'm working the rose trellis shawl. i forget where i got it from, but it was free online somewhere. and it's really pretty. it's four triangular panels worked from the neck, making a square. it's worked flat, and the break is on one of the diagonal lines from the center.

this is about one repeat of one of the triangles.

i didn't have circs in the right size - twos, that is. i have circs in threes, but the fabric was too loose. so, i started it on straights. i ran out of space on the needle after four repeats or so, and had to go buy circs. ^_^

update.2006.4.16

i don't remember what it was, but a couple weeks ago, i was inspired to make some stitch markers out of the bells i had gotten over winter break. i got them to make stich markers out of; i just hadn't gotten around to making them yet. they turned out wonderfully. i was amazed by how little time it took to make them and how good they looked. i have different colored wire and different colored beads. and they're just a nice happy jingly set.

and inspired by my sucess with the bells, i made another set of safety pins - subversive and useful! they also look suprisingly good.

dave's gloves are going well. i did the pinkey and have the calculations for the rest of the fingers (it's just a little big on me).

turns out the pinkey's a little big on dave too. right length. twenty five rows. but a bit too wide. so, i'm taking two stiches out of the cast on between each of the fingers. right now, i'm waiting for the yarn to relax.

the shetland shawl finally got too big, and i'm working the border and don't know what's going on, and i decided the jaywalker socks are too big in the heel, so i started another project. this was a good idea. a summer stole/wrap. branching out worked back and forth in connected strips to make a big rectangle. in turqoise thread from the japanese store. dude. actually it's not bad. i'm working them on ones. and it looks really pretty - great against black. it just looks so delicate and springy. and it's good for class - nice and mindless. now we'll just see if i finish it while i can still wear it.

this was it a week ago or so. my friend currently has my camera and card reader, so i can't get a photo now. but it's much larger - halfway done with the second strip. ... the ball of yarn looks just as big. and there's a second one.

i started another project a couple days later. it's another lace project. i'm finally using that huge cone of pink cotton. it's looking really pretty. again, my friend has my camera. i took a couple photos, but didn't take them off the card. now i'm well into the second pattern repeat.

and, of course, i follow links in other knitters blogs. so... now i really want a miniature sheep. preferably a miniature shetland sheep. or a toy cheviot. or a toy southdown. or all of them. amd i want a black one. their wool is always black. and i want a miniature goat too. evidentally, they can be trained to do tricks and stuff and they're very affectionate. and they all make good pets. one'll set me back three hundred dollars or so, but i won't need a lawn mower. i don't know i'll do if i live in the city, though...

<img width='1' height='1' ammout. at first, i followed the pattern exactly, but then it was too big, so i decided to reknit them. i took out one ruffle to make it smaller. and then, since the inner ruffle was so pretty,

i decided to add beads to the outter ruffle too.
<br since i had the left over yarn and there was contrast yarn at the bottom of the cuff, i used it to cast off too.

finishedobjects.00

i finally got around to processing the photos i've taken of all the projects i've finished since the beginning of last semester. and i did quiet a bit of knitting. ^_^

i made the penguin from knitty for a friend. she's likes penguins. ^_^ here are all the pieces.

and a few days later, i sewed her together, stuffed her, and took a good look at her.

pretty cute, ne?

i also finished dave's tie. it's too floppy and the seam i put up the center is too tight, but it's shiny. @_@

but i must say, the piece i'm most happy with is the scarf for my mom. i used some of the silk dave brough back from china and i worked a modified version of branching out from knitty. since the panels i made were so small (two and a half inches), and i'm obsessed with symetry, i decided to put two panels together, with the leaves going in both directions. i word the panels seperately, then sewed up the center. i'm especially happy with the seaming. i can't tell that it's sewn. when you hold it up, the center is more solid than the rest of the scarf, but you can't see a seam. and it's just gorgeous.

and here's a close up. ^_^

it just has the most wonderful weight. it drapes beautifully. and it's so shiny. and soft. i like petting it. ^_^ and my mom says that she always gets compliments when she wears it. ^_^ her therapist was very impressed.

in other news, i have a fish! it's a school experiment. i have to give him back in three weeks, but for now, i have a very pretty little friend. ^_^

<div
